Intro to Alexander Technique

With Gaynelle Gosselin.

Sometimes referred to as “the actor’s secret” Alexander Technique is a century old movement

technique that enables you to identify and discard harmful movement habits while directing

yourself in real time during both everyday activities and performance.

Benefits of study include:

1. Improved vocal resonance;

2. Enhanced stage presence;

3. Injury prevention; and

4. improved posture, balance and coordination. this class you will learn some basic principles

about how head/neck balance affects coordination, and how common reactions to various

stimuli affect performance. You will learn the basic Alexander Technique cues for releasing

undesired movement in favor of better self direction, and you will learn some tips for

calming performance anxiety.

In this class you will learn:

1. The role of Head/Neck balance in coordination

2. How to access support from the ground

3. Why common postural corrections don’t work

4. How to identify and override your go-to stress response(s)

5. Tips for calming performance anxiety

Gaynelle Gosselin is a movement education specialist with a keen interest in how mind and

body interact in communication. She founded See Change Dance in 2012 to demystify the

creative process through the exploration of movement arts. She was awarded a 2024 Palm

Beach County Changemaker grant to bring movement arts to the behavioral health recovery

community. Ms. Gosselin holds an MFA in Theatre and currently teaches at Florida Atlantic

University. She is the Alexander Technique instructor for Ballet Palm Beach’s pre-professional

training program. Gaynelle is a certified teaching member of Alexander Technique International

(ATI). Since 2006, she has been using Alexander Technique and other mind/body education

methods to help performing artists, educators, and other professionals learn to maximize

presence, minimize performance anxiety, and enhance creativity and presentation skills. In

addition to her work with See Change Dance, and Alexander Technique Palm Beach, Ms.

Gosselin performs with the Demetrius

This release form must be reviewed prior to attending classes from Momentum Stage:

1. Assumption of Risk: I voluntarily assume and accept all risks and potential hazards involved in the movement training and related activities provided by Momentum Stage. I understand that I am strongly advised to obtain comprehensive medical insurance prior to engaging in this activity.

2. Release: In consideration of the opportunity afforded me to participate in the movement training offered by Momentum Stage, I am waiving the right to file any claim or lawsuit against Momentum, its employees, members, officers, directors, agents or representatives for injury or damage resulting from my participation in this movement training or all related activities, including but not limited to: damage to home or facility and equipment; supervision, including negligence or acts of omission by Momentum, its employees, members, officers, directors, agents or representatives.

3. Knowing Voluntary Execution: I have carefully read this agreement and fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is a release of liability and a promise to not sue Momentum or its employees, members, officers, directors, agents or representatives and that I complete registration of my own free will. I understand that Momentum has the right to refuse services at any time.

4. Sales: I understand that the purchase is non-refundable.

5. Integrated Agreement: This Liability agreement supersedes and replaces all previous agreements between parties concerning this event, whether written or oral.
